"A dream is a wish..."

I've always thought that if I could live in a fairy tale, I would want to be Cinderella. She's so sweet and pretty, and her prince is so...Charming! :) But there's just that tiny little issue about the shoe. Wasn't that kinda klutzy of her to lose her shoe? I mean, how in the world does that happen?! Don't worry, this isn't going to be an exposition on the life and contributions of Cinderella, but I thought that some of you might enjoy this little anecdote from my life. Jordan was asked to preach at First Baptist Church in Pound, WI, yesterday. Of course, when you first walk into a church that you've never been to before, you want to make a good impression. And if your husband is going to preach there, you want to be sure to be a sweet little wife and mind your manners and not do anything too stupid. So, when we walked into church yesterday morning, I was on my best behavior. We came in through the door that we saw everyone else using, and it turned out to be kind of a back entrance to the church. It took us a minute to find the right person to help us know where to go and what to do, but soon we were meeting several different men who seemed to be rather important people in the church. They led us into the auditorium, but first we had to go up about 4 or 5 stairs...which is where I met my demise. I was wearing my black slip-on shoes that, by the way, have quite heavy soles; and when you're wearing nylons, you have to walk with a certain technique in order to make the shoes stay on (any of you girls who have ever had to walk in any sort of slip-on shoes with nylons know exactly what I'm talking about). Well, the edge of the stair stuck out a little more than I first anticipated, and I caught the toe of my shoe on it and...woop!...it came right off!! I didn't trip or anything; I just walked right out of my shoe!!! Mom, I don't think that Pattern for Living ever told us what is the polite way to retrieve your shoe when lost on the way up the stairs in front of a lot people. I tried to be very calm and gracious as I said "Excuse me" to the nice gentlemen in suits who were walking behind me and I slipped my foot back into my wayward little shoe, the whole time stifling my laughter! Thankfully, the rest of the day went very smoothly: Jordan did a great job of preaching and I managed to refrain from any more 'Cinderella impersonations.'

Don't feel too "klutzy" about it. We went to that church, we were trying to get inside the building from the front, but the door was locked. A lady came from the inside to help and we somehow wound up breaking the stained glass by the door. I'd take the "lost shoe" senerio any day (just, as a guy, spare me the comparison to Cinderella).
