Keeping Busy...

Maintenance Cookout
Thursday, August 2, 2007

Every summer, the Northland Maintenance Department throws a big cookout for all the Maintenance Staff. Being the Office Manager, I am expected to do all the planning and preparation for this event! It's a little intimidating to plan an event like that for 45 people, but it is always worth it! Thad Smith did all the grilling (as well as helping haul things out to 12' Falls and helping me plan the details!) and the food was awesome! Here are a few pictures:

Motorcycle Safety Course
Friday, August 3, 2007 - Sunday, August 5, 2007

One of the things we did in preparation for buying a motorcycle was to enroll Jordan in a Motorcycle Safety Course. Lots of the research Jordan did about motorcycles recommended taking the course, and I knew that I would feel much more at ease about buying a motorcycle if we 'did things right.' The course was held down in Appleton, so we got ourselves a great deal on a hotel and spent the weekend down there! It turned out to be really fun! Jordan's class went well and he got to spend a lot of time riding motorcycles. :) And I got to spend all the time I wanted SHOPPING! Appleton has a wonderful mall as well as a great down-town area...I had plenty to keep myself occupied! It was wonderful to spend a few days in civilization!

Businessmen's Advance & Night Golf
Thursday, August 9, 2007 - Saturday, August 11, 2007

Part of Jordan's job is helping Bobby Wood with Northland's Businessmen's Advance. That basically means that the week of the Advance Jordan is constantly on-call, making trips to the Green Bay and Iron Mountain airports, and making trips back-and-forth from Four Seasons to Northland and back. It's a tiring time, but very rewarding! The men who come are always such an encouragement and a spiritual challenge. Jordan also got to play in the Annual Northland Golf Tournament! There were over 90 golfers in the tournament, and Jordan's team won third place!!! I was SO excited! He got a really nice new golf club as a prize!

One of the annual activities for the Businessmen's Advance is Night Golf. It is such a fun time! The Four Seasons closes their 9-hole golf course around 7pm and then Jordan goes out and sets up glow-in-the-dark sticks t
o mark the fairway, hazards, greens, and holes. Then we hand out glow-in-the-dark golf balls and necklaces to the guys (so they hopefully won't become targets!) and off they go! Jordan had a few volunteers to be 'spotters' for the golfers because sometimes it can be hard to find your ball when it goes out of sight. It's hilarious to watch the guys do the Night Golf! The darkness messes with their depth perception and you can see some of the really good golfers totally biff it over and over! :D By default, I was one of the spotters. ;) This was my 3rd year doing it, so I was well-prepared with a lawn chair, a drink, a flashlight, and a hand-held illuminated sudoku game! ;)

End of Camp

Saturday, August 11, 2007 - Sunday, August 12, 2007

Another summer is almost over! It's hard to believe! Jess was a counselor at Northland this summer, so Mom and Julie drove all night Friday to get here Saturday morning and spend some time at Northland before taking Jess home on Sunday. Mom and I got to spend a lot of time together talking, taking walks, going on canoe rides, and stuff like that! It was such a wonderful time!

Picking Up the Motorcycle
Sunday, August, 12, 2007

We drove all the way out to Prentice, WI (about 2 hours) to look at a motorcycle after we said goodbye to Mom and the girls at Arbys in Iron Mt. The trip was a very pretty one. I'm so thankful to live in such a gorgeous area! The motorcycle turned out to be exactly what we wanted and the guy was willing to give us the price we wanted as well! So, Jordan drove the motorcycle home while I followed him in the car. About half-way home, I had to pull over and take pictures of this awesome eagle's nest. The eagle was in there, although it's kinda hard to see him in the picture.
