Sounds Like a Good Idea....

With a fresh snowfall on the ground this morning, this day is definitely looking more like December 25th than March 25th! :D But, Jordan is feeling all better, and I still have not come down with the dreaded bug, so things are looking bright! ;)

Kelly and Steve (the Grounds Supervisor and Electrician here at Maintenance) discovered a bear's den out in the woods near campus. They were hoping that with the temperatures consistently getting into the 30's lately that they might catch a glimpse of the bear. I lent them my camera in hopes of getting a look at the bear myself. As it turned out, the bears are pretty smart, and are still in hibernation right now. :) Actually, you can just see the tip of his nose peaking out from under his den...right about in the middle of the picture. As I ruefully consider the back of my mud-splashed khaki skirt, I cannot help but think it would have been a great idea to stay snug at home on a sloppy, snowy day like today! Haha! :D

Where in the world are we that men can go and find a bear's den!?! My kids are worried that we'll have bears in our yard when they wake up from their hibernation. Hannah asked me this afternoon if I would make them play outside when the bears wake up! It will reassure her to know that they are still hibernating--and we have proof!

Ha! Hibernating does sound like a great idea! I'm a little on the sleepy side myself.

Wow! That is awesome! I was always hoping in my four years at NBBC to catch a glimpse of one in the wild . . . to my dread, I never did. Just plenty of deer sightings! =) Which is funny because down in VA Beach, to catch a glimpse of anything but birds and squirrels is a rarity! =) So, when an occasional deer steps into view - we get excited! Yeah, we are true northerners!

I've heard it's a really bad idea to disturb a bear during hibernation... good thing they didn't wake it up :) We did get to see a few bears during our years up there, and I thought seeing them from the car was good enough :)
