One of my favorite things while we have been here at Northland is our 'night walks.'
A couple of summers ago, we decided on a whim to take a walk around the outskirts of main campus well after dark. We enjoyed it so much that we made it a regular habit, as long as the weather allowed for it. Last summer we became really faithful with our night walks, but this year we haven't gotten to go yet. Jordan usually brings his LED flashlight along so he can try to find deer out in the field (I don't know why); but he usually doesn't shine it on the road, so we walk pretty much in darkness the whole time. Sometimes he tries to scare me when we're out there...I'm not really sure why he does that either. Maybe it's so he can hear me reiterate my belief that he could totally take on any wild creature in those woods! ;) Back behind the trees, everything is so still and wide open, yet secluded...we can talk freely about whatever we want to without worrying about anyone overhearing except for the owls! No one goes back there in the dark, except for us. :) During the day, people walk, jog, run, and bike on that road, but at night it's all ours. It's amazing how the stars stand out when you get away from all the lights of campus! I love it when the moon is full and it just lights everything up with a blue-ish white light! It's really beautiful!
I'm really going to miss our night walks when we leave!
