One of the things that was really holding me back was that I could never find a pattern I liked in the material that I wanted. Not to mention the price...an ever-present limiting factor! I pretty much decided that my chair re-covering project was to be banished to 'project limbo' indefinitely. Then, shortly after the 4th, I was in Wal-Mart and found a bunch of vinyl tablecloths on the clearance rack. The proverbial light bulb went on in my head, and I realized that my chairs may not have to be ugly ducklings forever! I bought two of the tablecloths for $3 each, but didn't get around to starting the project until today. As it turned out, I only needed one tablecloth to do all five of my chairs, so I will be returning the other one to Wal-Mart to recoup my $3. :)
So, two trips to Home Depot (I realized we didn't have a staple gun, and then realized I had bought the wrong staples!) and a little elbow grease later, my chairs got the face-lift they so desperately needed!
(Bright and RED!)
I still have two more chairs to finish covering tomorrow after work, so maybe I'll take a picture of the entire ensemble then. :) They look so fun now!

What a great idea! I would have never thought to use the tablecloths. Just another thought about fabric--bed sheets and shower curtains are multi-function, too. There's a lot of yardage in both of them and can used a gazillion different ways...and there are some really cool shower curtains nowadays! Love your new chairs! Careful...now the bug has bitten you, you're going to be looking around to see what else you can do!
cool jen :) what a neat idea - the chairs certainly have a facelift! you should write a magazine, i just thought of that... "thrifty tips for your home" :) you're so good!

Wow! I didn't know you could say so much about one chair. Grant
Spiffy Indeed!! They look great, Jenn! You inspired me to do a little updating in my own dining room! You'll have to wait and see........;-)
They are beeeautiful!!! We just got a dining room set from Seth's brother's family, which they grew out of, and are loving it tremendously. Your fabric choice gives them such a country charm. Way to be frugal and homakery!!
