Stuff That's Going On

Life in the city has been good so far. Very different; but good!

We had fun celebrating our anniversary in the city. :) Jordan was very sweet to me! We went on a 'dinner-and-a-movie-date' on Thursday night. We ate at HuHots Mongolian Grill, then walked the mall for a little while before going to see "Get Smart." Have you seen that one yet? SO FUNNY!!!! Haven't seen a movie that made me laugh that hard for a very long time! Probably not since "Napoleon Dynamite"! :D

It was nice to spend the weekend here in WDM. We've been off visiting people pretty much every weekend since we moved here (if you hadn't gathered that from all the recent posts)! Saturday morning we went to the Des Moines Farmers Market. Wow, that was a pretty big to-do! I couldn't believe how many vendors and people were there! The prices on the produce were a little steep...I was kinda disappointed about that. But it seemed like most people went there to buy the baked goods, tacos, pizzas, burgers, and other ready-to-eat foods that were being sold! So, I was back to buying my produce at Wal-Mart today. :( One of these weeks I'm going to try the Farmer's Market in WDM and see if it's any better. I also finally learned how to throw a frisbee this week! I know, I'm a little behind on some of those basic skills! ;) We also took advantage of our swimming pool! Fun fun! ;)

Jordan's job is going so well! It seems to be just the right kind of job for Jordan; I mean, he's good at pretty much everything ;) but his personality just makes him such a good fit for this job. :) And, I'm so thankful that he can have a job that he enjoys. Of course, as with any job, there are pros and cons to accept, but overall it has been a good experience so far. You married girls out there know exactly what I mean about it being so wonderful when your husband enjoys his job! It's such a blessing!

While we're on the subject...I found a job too!! :) That was a big answer to prayer! I am working part-time as an administrative assistant at a CPA firm. The name of the firm? You're gonna love this! Coco & Ermels. Yep. I'm not even kidding you! Sounds like a place out of a comedy movie or something, doesn't it! :D Anyway, it's a small firm...I think there's just four full-time accountants at the branch I'm working at. I know there's another branch downtown, but I'm not sure how big that one is. Anyway, I'm the assistant for the one lady accountant there, and so far it seems like I'm going to enjoy working for her. She's pretty easy-going, which is definitely nice! She does work for businesses rather than personal accounts, so she has lots of extra work that I can help with. The perfectionist side of me is beginning to think I may be a good fit for accounting! Heehee! ;) My hours are wonderfully flexible, so I'm just working Tuesdays-Thursdays right now. My boss says that she'll need me to work more hours when Tax Season comes around, which is fine with me! My first day was this past Thursday, but even after only spending one day there, I have learned that Tax Season is treated with great respect by all. I guess I won't really be able to fathom the depth of the term until I actually experience my first Tax Season in a CPA firm! ;)

Another exciting thing is that I have found a way to use my college degree to make a little money! :) I posted an ad to see if I could pick up any side jobs as an event pianist, and I got a hit! So, I'm playing for a wedding this Saturday! I'm really excited about it, and I hope I will be able to get some more engagements soon! This is definitely what I call "fun work"!! :D

We're still doing the 'church-hunt' thing. :P The church we visited yesterday seemed pretty nice. I think we will probably visit there again. Please pray for us to be able to find a church where we can get involved in the ministry, be encouraged through the fellowship with other believers, and grow through the preaching of the Word!

I suppose I've blabbed long enough for today! Heehee! :)

Thanks for connecting all the dots. Your job sounds pretty important, and I am amazed about the side job thing. That is great. I understand about the church hunting. It is very hard. I will pray for you. :-)

Thanks for the update....made me miss city life more than ever! About the Farmer's Markets..we've gone to them all my life. My mom has worked at theirs for a local grower in her city (it's a HUGE farmers market) and I have visited it many times when I've gone home. I've been really surprised by how steep the prices are, too...each time...nothing goes on "sale" at the markets. I think it's a price people are willing to pay for fresh grown produce since it takes all the work of growing your own out of it for them. Maybe it's because most people in big cities don't have room for gardens so they're willing to pay more for fresh produce? Hope you find better deals at the next one, though!
