Saturday we slept in...as we generally try to do at least once every week...usually on Fridays or Saturdays. :) Upon awaking at the shameful hour of 10:30 (I know, you probably think we must be terribly lazy people, but I think you're just jealous! Heehee!), I began the traditional (and oh-so-not-healthful) brunch of chocolate chip pancakes. It took me a little longer than usual because we went to bed so late Friday night (we were out late because of Jordan's exciting softball game) that I forgot I needed to make more orange juice since we ran out Friday morning. (Since we both hate the city water here, making orange juice now takes twice as long since I need to filter the water, then add it to the concentrate...which I hopefully remembered to thaw out ahead of time...!) We finished our brunch around noon or so, and then spent a little time allowing our food to digest as we browsed the internet and watched TV. Jordan might have gotten some work-related paperwork done, but my time was spent in much less fruitful endeavors! ;) Sometime after one, we decided to go for a walk. It was so hot out! I found a dead cicada on the sidewalk. It was really gross! Jordan picked it up with his bare hands (I know, he's so brave!!) and tried to chase me around with it. (What a meanie!) Thankfully, some cars went by about that time, so he stopped. I tried to get back at him later by making him walk into some low tree branches that were hovering over the sidewalk about shoulder-height when he wasn't looking. Unfortunately, he got back at me by pulling some branches down on my head the next time we went under a tree. I still have to settle the score with him on that one! ;) By the time we got back to the apartment, we were so hot and the pool was looking very inviting as we walked by! So, what could we do but go put on our swimsuits and go for a swim?! Besides, I really could use a little more sun (or so a certain sister of mine thinks!)! After a couple hours at the pool, we spent the rest of our day watching Nacho Libre (it was pretty funny!), walking around the mall, and doing grocery shopping.
Sunday we visited another church. The verdict was that we wouldn't be back to that particular church. ;) We had lunch at Famous Dave's with Dan & Christa and the two college kids who were traveling with them for Pillsbury Baptist Bible College this summer. They were going through Des Moines on their way home! I was so glad that we got to see them as they came through! :) Christa just found out a little while ago that she is expecting!!! It was fun to catch up with her in person on all the little details of her pregnancy! :D
You know, sometimes I just have those little introspective moments when I try to fathom the concept that my friends and siblings and I are grown up. Marriage, parent-hood, full-time jobs, homes...all of the things that say "grown-up"! And now my best friend is going to be a mom?!!?!? Weren't we just hanging out at the lake together yesterday? Or was that really seven whole years ago? Sunday afternoon we hit the pool again. It's just been so beastly hot outside! There were so many kids playing in the pool...it was hilarious to watch them! We went to McDonald's for our favorite iced coffee and then to the strip mall near our apartment. After dark, we went for a nice long night walk and lots of people had their lights on inside their homes, so that was fun! ;)
Such a nice relaxing weekend! It was so fun just to spend so much time hanging out with Jordan; it was like one big, long date! ;) He is the one person in the world that I would rather be with than anyone else! He is my best friend and the one that I can just be myself with and know that he still loves me unconditionally! Even after three years together, we have so much to talk about and share with one another! I love him so much! Thank you for such a wonderful weekend, honey!
