Update on Baby Horak - 27 Weeks Pregnant

This week, our baby probably weighs 2 pounds (about double what she weighed a month ago!) and is about 14 1/2 inches long with her legs extended. She's sleeping and waking at regular intervals, opening and closing her eyes, and even sucking her fingers. With more brain tissue developing, our baby's brain is very active now. While her lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with a lot of medical help — if she were to be born now.

Our baby's taste buds are very developed now too (with more taste buds than she will ever have outside the womb, actually). If I eat some spicy food our baby will be able to taste the difference in the amniotic fluid (though not for another two hours or so after I eat). Some babies will even respond to that spicy kick by hiccupping. And although hiccups (which I've heard will feel like belly spasms to me) may seem like they're disturbing to our baby, she isn't stressed at all. It's just one more sensation that babies need to get used to. So far I haven't noticed any hiccups, but we'll see what this week brings!  Maybe I should make enchiladas for supper tonight?  ;)

It is great to be journeying along with the growing baby! Enjoyed the Easter update and pictures too.
