Update on Baby Horak - 33 Weeks Pregnant

This week our baby weighs almost four pounds and could be up to 19 inches long. She is gaining about eight ounces every week. Our baby has moved to the head-down position. This position not only prepares her for birth but allows blood to flow to her developing brain. Right now, our baby is also in the process of receiving my antibodies. If she were born right now, her immune system would be immature, and extra care would need to be taken to keep her in a sterile environment. She's rapidly losing that wrinkled, alien look and her skeleton is hardening. The bones in her skull aren't fused together, which allows them to move and slightly overlap, thus making it easier for her to fit through the birth canal when the time comes. These bones don't entirely fuse until early adulthood, so they can grow as her brain and other tissue expand during infancy and childhood.
