We only have about 2 weeks left until the due date now! Serena is probably gaining weight at a rate of about half an ounce per day.
As she's awaiting her birthday, Serena is spending her time with practice, practice, practice. She is simulating breathing by inhaling and exhaling amniotic fluid, sucking on her thumb, blinking, and pivoting from side to side (one minute I'll feel her tushy on the left side, a little later she'll have swung it around to the right side). All these are skills needed for her next gig — starring as newborn.
Here's an interesting fact: our baby's head (which, by the way, is still growing) will, at birth, be the same size circumference as her hips, abdomen, and shoulders. And guess what's making an impression (literally) these days on those shoulders and hips: fat — causing little dimples in those cute elbows and knees, shoulders and hip, and creases and folds in the neck and wrists. Her nails have been growing and now reach to the ends of her fingers and toes. Her movements are quite restricted by her close quarters. She has a firm grasp, which we'll soon be able to test when we hold her hand for the first time! Her organs have matured and are ready for life outside the womb.
This could be my last tummy picture!!! :)
