A whole month!! That's how long it's been since our precious baby...all covered in poop...was placed in my arms!! :) She's nursing right now, so I thought I'd test my patience with my own one-handed typing skills to write an update and upload some pictures.
Sleeping cherub
The days have flown by, just like I knew they would! I'm sure part of that can be attributed to the fact that it's hard to keep track of the days when they are not separated by nights of uninterrupted sleep. Nights with a newborn, I've discovered, are exactly like days with a newborn...only darker. Thankfully, Serena usually falls right back to sleep after nursing at night. Usually. Except last night when she woke up bright-eyed and smiley at 4AM. It's a good thing she's so cute, or those late-night parties would probably be a little annoying! Ha!
Macy and Serena are becoming good friends. Macy likes to lick Serena's hands, feet, and face - it's so cute! When I put Serena in her swing, Macy will go and sit right next to her until I come and take her out again. I think Macy might be getting a little protective of her! The other night, Macy was so tired after a day of playing with the dogs at Jordan's parents, so we put Serena on her to try to get some pictures. Macy was so sleepy that she didn't seem to mind at all!
One morning last weekend while we were on vacation, Serena woke up around 7ish to nurse. Afterwards, she was in one of her bright-eyed moods when she just studies my face while I talk to her in the silly high-pitched voice mommies tend to use with their babies. AND SHE SMILED AT ME!!!! I LAUGHED OUT LOUD! It was SO delightful! I know that sounds so trite, but there really is no other word for it! DEEE-LIGHT-FUL!! :D And not a day has gone by since then that I haven't been able to get at least one smile out of her! And it still makes me laugh! She just squints up her eyes SO cute, and of course that dimple is just TO DIE FOR!!!
Look at that beautiful profile! I love that button nose!
Serena has now rolled over a total of 4 times in her first month of life. Every time, it pretty much shocks me! She also holds her head up really well and loves looking around or staring at someone's face. This past weekend, Jordan's dad weighed himself with Serena and without, and the difference was 9 pounds! She is definitely growing...she seems longer, and her cheeks are getting pretty chubby!! We love listening to all the noises she makes...lots of grunts and squeaks. And while she nurses, she often gives contented little "hmmm's" with every swallow! So sweet! She is still enthralled with Jordan whenever he holds her or talks to her. It's so cute how she will stop crying for Mommy for a little bit if Daddy comes and holds her!
Overall, Serena has been a pretty happy baby during the first month of her life! I still find myself marveling at the absolute miracle that she is, and something tells me that I will probably never get over that!
