A Bunch of Anecdotes

Serena loves to quote books or relate experiences to things she read in books.  “Just like in the book?“ is a common phrase from her.  And sometimes Bret will echo, “Ahh, book?“  ;)  After feeding the doggies one day, we were walking out of the barn and Serena quoted a favorite book, “All is well!”
When Bret or Cody are sad and inconsolable, Serena will often try to distract them with a story about “one time when I was sad.”  This is a tactic that we have used with Serena to help her deal with situations and it’s so funny to hear her use it with them!
Serena likes to reminisce about the day Cody was born.  Because we looked through a couple pregnancy books with lots of pictures in them while I was pregnant, Serena knows quite a bit about babies’ development and birth.  So, she likes to check facts about Cody’s cord and ask things like, “Did the head come out first?”  Pretty funny to hear her ask those kinds of things!  She was so happy when his cord stump fell off, and for the next week she had to keep checking his belly button every time I changed his diaper!  She likes to talk about how Mommy’s tummy is going down and my lap is getting bigger again!  ;)
Mom went along with us on our first errand-running with Cody.  He was 5 days old!  As we were leaving Walmart, Serena announced, “After this, I want to go eat some sour cream!”  (She still calls “ice cream” sour cream, and the day before Cody was born, Jordan had taken us to Culvers for some ice cream, which is an extremely rare treat for the kids!) ;)
The other day, as we were outside playing, Serena said to me, “When I grow up, I will have a baby in my tummy and when it comes out, then you will have FOUR babies!”
Serena is FASCINATED with my Moby wrap!  She loves watching me put it on and REALLY wants to have one, too.  The other day, when I got her up from her nap, she took her biggest blankie off her bed and announced to me that it was her Moby wrap, and would I help her put it on?  ;)
Of course, Cody is sleeping in our bed with us, so now Serena likes to put her babies to bed in our bed too.  One morning, she came in to “wake up her babies” and was so upset to find them NOT on our pillows where she had left them the night before, but set aside on the dresser!!!  She was SO indignant and said reproachfully to Jordan and I, “You guys need to SHARE with the babies!”  She was clearly VERY disappointed in us and our lack of sharing!  ;)
Bret is adorable with his “Yeah!”  He says it all the time to just about everything!
