Eat. Sleep. Poop. Repeat.
Cody is just the sweetest little baby! He tends to cluster-feed when he’s awake, and then sleeps for a nice long stretch in the afternoon (during naptime, YAY!) and then goes to sleep for the night between 7 and 8! He takes a shorter snooze in the morning and evening, too; and doesn’t wake up in the morning until 7-ish. He sleeps in our bed and nurses lying down like a little champ, so we’re sleeping great! The other kids didn’t figure out how to nurse lying down until they were closer to 2 months old, so I’m pretty happy not to have to sit up to feed him! He’s gaining weight so quickly…about a pound a week average so far! It’s like he’s been on a constant growth spurt! ;) The other day, Kari asked was holding Cody and he was getting a little fussy so she asked me if he might be hungry. I responded, “Is he awake?” Haha!
Serena is in love with the story “The Mitten.“ The version of the story in the book we got at the library this week begins by talking about what the little boy loved to do in each season. A couple days ago, as we were making our daily journey to the mailbox (it’s about a 10-minute walk to and from the mailbox with all 3 kids in tow!), we saw a few leaves on the ground, so I told Serena that pretty soon all the leaves on the trees were going to turn to different colors and fall off the trees all over the ground. She was incredulous! This is why it is so fun to give her new information! She thought for a bit, and had lots of questions. One question was, “What can we do with the leaves?” I told her that it would be fun to rake them up into piles and jump in them. Again, incredulous. Then, a light bulb went off! “JUST LIKE IN THE BOOK!?!” (The word “book” went up sharply at the end, reflecting all the excitement behind it!) “Yes, just like in your book!“ I replied. I knew right away which book she meant, since I’ve read it a couple times a day for the last week! ;) A moment later, Bret’s little voice echoed, “Uhhhh, book??“ with the exact same intonation! ;D Serena was so excited about her new information that she has since told Grammie, Grandma, and Daddy all about it. ;) The same book talks about how in the spring the little boy liked to climb trees to peek at baby birds in their nests. So, today Serena decided we needed to try climbing a tree. Thankfully, we’ve got several with very low branches, so we had a lot of fun ‘climbing’ the trees.
