Move in Progress

Today we left Northland.

That was such a strange feeling.

After all the wonderful years we have spent there, it was very hard to say goodbye to all the friends we had made. There are so many people at Northland who have made a big impact on our lives! I hope we will see them again soon!

We have so many memories wrapped up in Northland. Lots of 'firsts' for us...our first meeting, our first date, our first years as a married couple, our first home.... I'm going to miss that place a lot! It was sad to close the door on our apartment for the last time (I'm a little sentimental, I guess!). God blessed us so much through our years at Northland!

We loaded up our Penske truck yesterday evening with the help of very good friends. It took a little over an hour, so I suppose that isn't too bad. This morning we loaded up the final things and I finished cleaning the apartment. We said a few last goodbyes to some of our friends, and then we headed out! We left around 11:30, thinking we would arrive at Jordan's family's home (where we are staying the night tonight) a little after 6.

The truck seems so huge! We have a 26' truck, and hooked a car dolly to the back so I wouldn't have to drive the car. Jordan paced it off, and the whole rig was about 55'!!! When I was sitting in the cab, my feet wouldn't even touch the floor! Haha! It was weird to be able to look straight across to semi drivers instead of up at them!! ;)

Around 4:30, about 35 miles south of Madison, we blew the passenger's side tire on the car dolly. :( We called Penske, and after 3 hours and 15 minutes we were finally back on the road! I'll spare you all the boring details, but let's just say that Penske definitely did not live up to their promise of good road-side service!!! :( Thankfully, it was a really pretty day, so we enjoyed the sunshine while we waited! ;) When our 'road side service' finally arrived, he ended up just taking the car dolly and we went on down the road without it. So much for our brilliant plan to save gas by pulling the car behind us instead of driving it! :P We made it to our destination around 10:15.

Tomorrow we will have a little over 2 hour's drive to West Des Moines, and then we'll be unloading the truck into the apartment around 3. I am so excited to get everything settled in and make it all homey! :)

Well, who knows when I'll get to blog again! Hopefully it won't be too long...when I don't get to blog for a while it makes me feel like I'm so far away from everyone! Until later....

Jenn, Isn't blogging neat that way - feeling close to everyone. I totally agree. I look forward to hearing and seeing how you make the apartment in Des Moines homey. ~Beth for the Tribe

Sorry you had a bad experience with the moving company. I'll keep that in mind when we move next summer. Can't wait to see pictures of your new home. Praying for you.
