Grammie, Julia, and Kaden & Keira came over to play in the leaves with us today! This was a dream-come-true for Serena, who has been eagerly anticipating the opportunity to rake up some leaves (we don’t have any rakes, so Mom had to bring hers out) and jump in them (as she has read about in her books)! And, of course, she and Bret LOVE playing with their cousins! Our landlord is having some major work done on the property, so a big digger was dropped off while we were playing in the leaves. We were all pretty fascinated as we watched the man unload it from the truck and drive it to the back of the property! Of course, we thanked him for the free entertainment! ;)

Playing in the leaves! |
Serena was a little too wound up from her fun morning to settle down for her nap. She has started not sleeping during naptime about once a week or so lately. Instead, she just sits in her bed and reads her books, sings songs, and plays with her dolls/stuffed animals. Thankfully, Bret just goes ahead and falls asleep in spite of her chatter! This afternoon, Serena called me in to help her find Olie. After retrieving Olie, I said good night to her like usual and was about to leave until she said, “Where are you going, Mommy?“ I know this might sound strange for my inquisitive little Bambina, but that is actually the first time she’s asked me that! I told her I was going to go rest, because that’s what we do during naptime. She said, “Oh,“ but seemed a bit dissatisfied with the answer. I left; but a few minutes later I heard her voice over the monitor, “Mommy! I don’t want you to rest! Mommy! I don’t want you to rest!“ over and over and over! I couldn’t help but laugh! What a booger! Bret woke up a couple minutes later, and since they’d already been in there for a couple hours anyway, I got them up without addressing Serena’s boogeriness. Hopefully she won’t do that again, but it WAS kinda funny! ;)
The kids were both up on the stool at the counter while I made supper tonight. Bret was holding a small toy, which he dropped, so he climbed down to get it. It had fallen underneath the stool (which was a step-stool). Rather than trying to reach it from the side (which would have been very easy), he tried to squeeze under the first step of the stool to reach the toy. It took a lot of effort, and Serena was standing next to him encouraging him that he almost had it. I was kind of smiling to myself at how they were making this so much harder than it had to be, when Bret finally got a hold of the toy and Serena started cheering, “Good job, Bwet! You’re amazing!” What a couple of goofs!
