After naps today, I had the kids help me make some cookies. They were “clean” cookies with no sugar, flour, butter, or eggs; so when they wanted to eat the dough, I let them eat a bunch guilt-free!
Serena is really into playing “mommy” to her babies, Emily and Olie. I gave her one of her old pink burp cloths to use because she thought she needed one after seeing me using one with Cody. She often points out to me what she is doing and says, “Just like you do!” with so much pride and satisfaction in her voice that she can be “just like Mommy.” It’s so sweet to see her carrying her babies around, carefully positioned over her burp-cloth-draped shoulder, or snuggled in her sling, or nursing them with her boppy pillow (I have an extra that I was going to get rid of, but decided to wait since Serena kept borrowing mine, haha!). Oh! And Serena keeps showing more and more understanding of the alphabet! She has the “Alphabet Song” down pretty well. It’s hilarious to hear her sing it. “A B C D E F G, H I K K (here she swishes her tongue back and forth in her mouth to imitate the “elemen-oh-pee” sound).” The rest of the song is pretty good! It’s so funny to hear her sing it, though, and she LOVES showing off that she knows that song! The other day, she came up to me with one of Bret’s old burp cloths. Someone had made it for him, so his name is embroidered on it in big blue letters. Serena came to tell me she’d gotten a new burp cloth with her name on it. “See Mommy? Sometimes we make my name with a “B”!” Now, obviously, she doesn’t really get the whole spelling concept, BUT she does know the difference between a “B” and an “S”!
