Funny recent Bret-isms...
It is VERY fun having such a verbal year-and-a-half-year-old! His pat answer to most questions is, "'Cause I want to." Makes sense. ;) His usual greeting is, "How's it going? Mom?" He enunciates his words very carefully and addresses whomever he is speaking to. He loves playing with pop cans...empty or full (thankfully he hasn't found a full one that is open yet)...and the other day I saw him walking around with one he'd pulled out of the box of pop I'm still trying to find a good home for in our new house. (We're not big pop drinkers, but Jordan does like to have one in his lunch that I pack for him for work.) I said, "Bret, that is not a toy. Not to play with. Please go put it back in the box." He looked at me very earnestly and replied, "I working. Mom. I working HARD." "Okay, Buddy," as I was suppressing a laugh. "Now work hard on putting it away." "Okay." He's so easy-going and agreeable! I seriously want to scrunch him up into a ball and munch on him all day long!!! (That seems really weird now that I see it printed out, hahaha!)
Serena is really into imaginary play. The other day, she came downstairs all excited because she'd opened her Little People cooler (???) and out jumped three puppies!!!! "And they don't jump on us!!!" Their names are Serena, Cody, and Kaden (sorry, Bret!), and two are black and one is brown. She feeds them, waters them, makes a bed for them to sleep in at night, and chooses one to come along whenever we go someplace. It really is amazing to me how she keeps track of them and continues to play with them each day for almost a week now! I have a college friend in town with kids the same age as Serena & Bret. I've told Serena & Bret about them and that they are coming to play with us soon, and now Serena is pretty much obsessed with G & O. They go to bed with her and sleep with her. She tells me what they are doing all the time. "G & O are putting on their jammies. Eating bweakfast. Going sweepy. Watching you, Mommy." (Okay, so that last one creeped me out a little, haha!)
Cody started rolling over (tummy to back) a couple days after we moved in here. He's getting better and better at it (though he doesn't get much time on the floor to practice, I'm afraid!). He also likes having things in his hands, though he's not too great at grabbing anything yet. But, boy, does he get excited if you put something in his hands for him!!! Serena & Bret LOVE giving him toys! He and Serena are pretty good friends. She is an expert at getting him to smile (you really should hear her baby-talk...it's so sweet!) and he always looks really happy when his eyes find her face in a room! I'm starting to get a little jealous, haha! ;)
