Keeping It Real

I get so many pictures like this:

Nothing special, but you know what?  It's REAL.  This is what our lives look like.  Dog toys and baby toys scattered around the floor.  I cropped out the pile (not stack!) of books, the (other) dog sleeping on the afghan on the floor, the couch cushions on the floor (so the couch could be jumped on...this is the reason we decided to keep that old couch when we moved, heehee!).  Our house is not decorated, but I'm thankful the previous owners decided to paint the walls with colors rather than just plain white.  Might not have been my choice of paint colors (or wall tile....mehhh), but still it's nicer than white!  ;)  With all our moving around, I haven't hung pictures on the walls of our home since we moved into our house in Des Moines four years ago.  And while the thought of decorating our own home again sometime in the future is both exciting and daunting (I love a tasteful home, but do not at all consider myself an interior decorator!!!), I'm kinda thankful that we've lived this trimmed-down, transitional life over the last 3 years.  It's helped me focus on the "real" stuff of life.  With each move, Jordan & I have pared down our lives a little more.  It's helped us discover what we really enjoy and where our true interests lie.  (You get really tired of moving the same unopened boxes over and over.)  There's so much extra "stuff" that we've let go of along the way!  Reminds me of the stories of the pioneers who would leave things they realized were weighing them down alongside the wagon trails, haha!  :D  So, although I am trying to teach myself better photography during my spare time (hahaha!), I guess this is just me saying that our pictures aren't gorgeous because our home is not gorgeous!  But, it's real life, and at least my subjects are pretty stinkin' cute!!!!  ;)

She looks oh-so-sweet in this picture...but don't be fooled!  She was actually running away from the camera, haha!

Finally agreed to a picture with Daddy

So much personality in that little body!

These two!

Serena in her pretty red holiday dress

Can't believe they're getting so big!

"Take my picture with Cody, Mommy!"  I can't pass up an opportunity like that!

All three

Why are you looking at that huge grin and proud posture???  This is a picture of two towers!!!  ;)
