'Twas Halloween Night

Twas the night of Halloween, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
(We had caught the mouse, and set more traps with care
In hopes that another mouse soon we would snare.)

Jordan needed to get vocab in his head,
But he opted to play some xbox instead.
I was working on Bach's music, that good ol' chap,
Ignoring my sleepiness...I needed a nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a chatter,
A titter, and laughter; they made such a clatter!

Away to our front door they flew like a flash,
From their car to our home they made a mad dash.

The moon brightly shines the frosted earth aglow:
Gives the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, Jordan's wondering ears did indeed hear,

A knock, and giggles filled with Halloween cheer.

Jordan's game he did pause and his answer was quick,
Then he jumped over the couch as slick as a lick.
More rapid than eagles the knockers they came,
Jordan looked through the peephole and called my name!

And then, in a twinkling, I heard at the door

The muffled laughter of the silly girls four.
As I poked out my head, to ascertain the sound,

In through the open door the girls came with a bound.

One was dressed all in green from her head to her foot,
And her clothes were all borrowed, but they looked good.
One was a ghetto girl, all decked out in punk,
And she had a tattoo...she definitely had spunk!

There were two little fairies in the group too
Who through their laughter forgot to say "Boo!"
Their eyes - how they twinkled! Their dimples how merry!
Their cheeks were like roses, their noses like cherries!

The fairies, the ghetto girl, the jolly green elf,
I just laughed when I saw them, in spite of myself!

Their costumes and the laughing words that they said,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

They spoke many-a word, and went straight to their work,
And ate of my goodies, and then with a smirk,
I did hear them exclaim, 'ere they left for the night,
"Miss Shook might see us, we should get out of sight!"

So the ghetto girl shrugged and folded her arms
While the jolly green elf's eyes twinkled with charms
And the fairies were all a-flutter as they
Tried to get their wings to carry them away!
