Life as a Camp Kid

Serena and Bret thrived in their new roles as Camp Kids.  Bret was very easy-going, taking his morning naps in the Moby Wrap while we hung out at camp, and then just being sweet and sociable with everyone.  Serena was quick to make friends with all the staff and was extremely popular with the campers.  It was funny to see how the different age groups interacted with her!  The Junior Campers were very motherly to her...holding her hands, teaching her new words, and 'helping' her do everything.  They wanted to hold her all the time, but we made a No-Holding-Allowed rule for everyone's sake!  ;)  The Junior High Campers were not quite so confident in their interactions with her, though some of them still befriended her.  The Senior High Campers liked playing with her and thought she was pretty cool.

One of the teen campers managed to put Bret to sleep one evening!  He was pretty proud of himself!

The staff got this adorable "Hugs Are Free" outfit for Serena for her birthday.  On the last day of camp, I added a little sign that raised the price to $.75.  ;)

One rainy evening, Serena got to 'play' carpetball with a bunch of the teen campers.  I heard her aim was a little wild at times, haha!  ;)

By the last week, Serena was feeling pretty comfortable out on the game field, and she made a bid for playing one of the games.  She was pretty sad when she wasn't allowed to play!  This straw hat was her consolation prize.  ;)

One of Serena's favorite places to be was in the kitchen.  Mostly because that's where "Jansy" was!  Plus, she could usually find plenty of other buddies in there, like Sarah and Matt!  There was also a fan that she never forgot to talk into!

Serena LOVED the playground, and would often walk over there and play all by herself.  She wasn't big enough to climb the ladder by herself, so she learned to climb up the slide instead.  It didn't take her long to figure out that climbing the slide was much easier in bare feet, so she usually took her shoes off before she left and handed them to me.  Then, we would all watch in amazement as she walked barefoot over the gravel road (which was covered with BIG rocks, by the way!) to get to her beloved playground!

It's so cool to hear about your life on the camp! And so many fun pictures! The second to last one, with you and Bret, is absolutely beautiful. :)
